Transportation Sector: Off-Road
Emissions and Air Quality Assessment for Norway Fleet
Technical support to mobile source emission calculations from off-road (marine and off-road equipment) and on-road (hot running, cold start, parking) sources in Norway. These emissions were used as an input to an air dispersion model to assess the change in air quality.
Cost Assessment of Stricter Emission Standards
Project Manager/technical lead of a recent Environment Canada’s project on Canadian market information in 2015 concerning large spark-ignition and small spark-ignition engines. This project included an assessment of incremental costs associated with the implementation of stricter emission standards (Tier 2 for LSI and Phase 3 for SSI exhaust and evaporative standards).
Guidelines for Assessment of Equivalencies under The MARPOL Convention
QA/QC manager for Transport Canada's project on developing Guidelines for Assessment of Equivalencies of Averaging and Fuel Efficiency Measures to Sulphur Emission Control Standards Under Annex VI to the MARPOL Convention.
Emissions from Large Marine Fleet under The MARPOL Convention
Technical advisor for more than eight years for a confidential client on projects related to large marine fleet emissions requiring assessments based on the equivalencies of averaging and fuel efficiency measures under the MARPOL Convention.
Air Quality and Human Health Assessment from Rail Link
Technical lead for the peer review of two Metrolinx reports for a district school board. Performed air quality assessment, environmental assessment, and human health assessment of air quality impacts for Georgetown South Service Expansion and Union Pearson Rail Link in Toronto.
Port Related Emissions from Grain Terminal in British Columbia
Technical lead to develop Port related emissions (Vessels, on-road, cargo handling equipment and railway) inventory as well as emissions generated by a proposed grain terminal in British Columbia.
Database Development for Compression Engines
Project Manager/technical lead for Environment Canada's project to develop 2015 calendar year Canadian stationary compression ignition engine population and activity data by regions.
Emission Inventory of Off-road and On-road Engines in Canada
Technical lead for Electric Power Research Institute project to prepare criteria and GHG emission inventory from on-road vehicles, off-road equipment, marine and air traffic sources in Canada for different electrification penetration scenarios. This project included estimation of fuel consumption, electricity usage, and emissions from fossil fuelled and electric on-road vehicles and off-road equipment for different electrification scenarios between 2010 and 2050. On-road emissions were generated using the vehicle emission estimation model MOVES. GHG and CAC emission projections were made for low, nominal and high levels of vehicle electrification.
Off-road Emission Inventory for British Columbia
Project manager/technical lead for British Columbia Ministry of Environment project to develop screening level inventory of off-road diesel, light and heavy fuel emissions/fuel use in BC. The objective of this project was to gain a better understanding of the distribution of off-road diesel, light and heavy fuel uses and associated GHG emissions in agricultural, construction, industrial, marine and recreational and other sectors.
Database Development for Off-road Equipment Population
Project manager/technical lead for several Environment Canada’s projects to develop mobile off-road engines population databases in Canada from 1990 to 2015 at national, provincial/territorial and Census Division level. The objective of this work was to compile and evaluate off-road equipment engine population, activity and fuel efficiency data in Canada that can also be used in the NONROAD model. The database developed in this study is being used by Environment Canada to evaluate/develop various programs and policies applicable to off-road engines.
Canadian Stationary Compression Ignition Engine Study
Project Manager/technical lead for Environment Canada's project on Canadian stationary compression ignition engine study. The focus of this study was to provide a comparative cost and emission analysis of the various technology (tier) levels of the US EPA stationary compression ignition diesel emission standards within the context of Canadian usage and requirements.
Database Development for Stationary Engines
Project manager/technical lead for Environment Canada’s project to develop Canadian stationary engine population and emission study. This study required development of a database including population and activity data for stationary engines, new stationary engines, and a database of stationary engine or equipment sales projections for the calendar years 2010, 2020, and 2030.
Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Parameters Affecting Emissions
Technical lead for Health Canada/ Environment Canada’s project to investigate gasoline and diesel fuel parameters affecting emissions for four fuel parameters: effect of reducing gasoline sulphur level from current level of 30 ppm; effect of changing deposit control additives in gasoline; effect of increasing cetane number from its current level of 40; and increasing lubricity from its current level of < 460 µm using HFRR test.
